Join us in the Innovation Lab as we cheer on (or shout advice to) the campus community’s mystery contestants as they answer questions about Fair Use from recent legal cases. This workshop will not be recorded to protect the dignity of all involved.
This hands-on seminar is designed for anyone who is using other people's ideas in their own (or work-related) writing and publication. This seminar will include a review of exclusive rights of copyright holders; discussion of specific education uses of materials for education, scholarship, and research; an in-depth group discussion of each of the four factors of fair use determinations (and why they developed in real legal cases), and group evaluation of the four factors in case studies highlighting common publishing copyright situations.
This workshop is focused on faculty and students who use copyrighted materials. The first 60 minutes of this workshop will provide an overview of copyright law, the public domain, authors/creators- and copyright holders-rights (and exceptions to those rights), and how to document a Fair Use argument; the final 30 minutes of the workshop will include discussing the concerns attendees bring to the class and documenting their Fair Use arguments. This online workshop will not be recorded to allow those attending to openly discuss their copyright issues.

This 60-minute workshop will provide an overview of APA citation style (7th ed.). Students will learn how to write in-text and reference list citations, and will get time to practice their new skills.

This 60-minute workshop will introduce students to bibliographic databases appropriate for students in behavioral and social sciences. After an introduction of the available resources for each subject, students will learn how to find journal articles, books, book chapters, testing and measurement tools, as well as other document types. Students are asked to bring a laptop or tablet device to the workshop.

In 60 minutes, the advanced database searching workshop will introduce students to the Meriam Library’s OneSearch tool and subject specialized bibliographic databases. Students will learn how to perform a simple search in the databases, to focus their searches, to identify subject headings and search terms, and to develop advanced subject searching skills. Students are asked to bring a laptop or tablet device to the workshop.
