Poetry is Not a Luxury Open Mic Night

Join us for this open mic poetry reading to celebrate the work of Nikki Giovanni, an African American poet, writer, critical theorist, activist, and educator. As one of the most famous and recognizable Black poets, her work runs the gamut of creative expression. She has been published in many poetry anthologies, released several poetry recordings, nonfiction essays, children's books, and several essays analyzing race, class, sexism, and other social issues. Giovanni passed away last December at the age of 81.
