PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature. It’s a really BIG database. This workshop will take you through how to find research articles and navigate different areas of the database like filters, subject searching, and wildcards to get at the best search results.

A Guided Tour Through The Silmarillion: Its History and Stories

This lecture, presented by renowned Tolkien scholar and writer Professor Bradford Lee Eden (Interim Dean of Meriam Library), will explore the magnum opus of J.R.R. Tolkien—the 60,000-year history of Middle-earth leading up to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Known among Tolkien scholars as the legendarium, this body of work includes The Silmarillion, published in 1978 by Tolkien’s son Christopher, as well as the 12-volume History of Middle-earth series that Christopher later compiled and edited.

Lantis Awardee Presentation

Dr. Jinsong Zhang (Chemistry and Biochemistry) and Dr. Kun Zhang (Civil Engineering) will present the results of their 2020 Lantis University Professor Award. Thinking outside of the box, these professors assessed and created a road pothole-patching material made from used cooking oil, plastic and reclaimed asphalt.

Freedom to Read Open Mic Night

Come read an excerpt of your favorite banned book (no more than two minutes, please) at the first floor Research Commons. Free food and refreshments!  All participants who read will receive a FREE tote bag emblazoned with the message, "I READ BANNED BOOKS" from the amazing Pedal Press Art Cooperative.  Learn more about all the books that are being challenged here.
