This lecture, presented by renowned Tolkien scholar and writer Professor Bradford Lee Eden (Interim Dean of Meriam Library), will explore the magnum opus of J.R.R. Tolkien—the 60,000-year history of Middle-earth leading up to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Known among Tolkien scholars as the legendarium, this body of work includes The Silmarillion, published in 1978 by Tolkien’s son Christopher, as well as the 12-volume History of Middle-earth series that Christopher later compiled and edited. The lecture will be accompanied by artwork from various artists, providing a visual backdrop to Middle-earth’s vast and intricate history.
