This lecture, by well-known Tolkien scholar and writer Dr. Bradford Lee Eden (Interim Dean of Meriam Library), will talk about the magnum opus of J.R.R. Tolkien, namely the 60,000 year history of Middle-earth prior to the events documented in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Known by Tolkien scholars as the legendarium, Dr. Eden will discuss both the published Silmarillion of 1978 by Tolkien's son Christopher along with the 12-volume History of Middle-earth series which Christopher published afterwards. Artwork by various artists illustrating Middle-earth's massive history will provide visual background to the lecture.
