Meriam Library is excited to announce that we implemented a new resource sharing product and interface in July 2022. Resource sharing (also known as Interlibrary Loan) is a free service available to all Chico State students, faculty, and staff to request physical and electronic materials from other libraries. This is another product from our OneSearch vendor, Ex Libris, named “Rapido”. Rapido is active across the California State University (CSU) system and should improve our CSU+ and Interlibrary Loan delivery times and processes. This new product will also extend outside of the CSUs, giving you quicker access to materials all over the United States and will soon expand to other countries. The CSUs are the first consortium to use this product.
You may have already seen the new screens for this process. In order to start requesting materials that are not available at Chico State, be sure to sign in to OneSearch.
When requesting a physical book, you can now request the entire book or just book chapters. Chapters will be received in digital format, but the book will be delivered physically (more on this below).
The delivery estimations on all these screens are approximate. Depending on what library your item is located in, it may be between 3-7 business days for delivery.
Once you click the ‘Get It” button for the book, you will see some new request screens that should be filled in with most of the information the library needs for your request. You can just add volume, a “not needed after” date, and any notes you want to share with the Interlibrary Loan department.
The request form for the book chapter looks slightly different. The form will already know your email but you can change it to a different email for delivery:
If you request the physical book, it will arrive at the library just as it did in the past and you will get an email when the book is ready for pickup.
If you request a book chapter, you will get an email shortly with a link to a PDF version of the book chapter. The link is good for 30 days, so you will want to download it for later use before the link expires.
For articles or other digital items not held by Chico State, you will see a similar screen for requesting.
When you click on ‘Get It’, you will see this screen:
In addition to the emails you get from the library about the status of your requests, you can now check your library account for the progress of your requests on the Requests tab. If your request is ready, you can download the files directly from your library account.
We’re excited to offer this new feature in OneSearch! Please visit the Interlibrary Loan Services at Chico State page for more information about CSU+ and Interlibrary Loan or contact the department directly
