Paula's October Picks

People say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but let’s face it:  it’s hard not to be intrigued by some of these covers. It’s almost like they are begging you to pick them! And no one at Meriam Library sees more interesting covers than Paula. Here is this month’s Paula Pick!

Judge a Book By Its Cover: Introducing Paula’s Pick

Paula Scholtes has worked at Meriam Library for a total of 35 years, including as a student employee. In her current role as cataloger in the Library’s ACME (Acquisitions, Collection Management and Evaluation) department, she processes incoming books, entering them into our system, so they can be checked out by patrons. In other words, hundreds of new books cross Paula’s desk each month!

Overdue and Lost Email Notice

The library sends out notices to inform patrons of which titles they have out. Overdue items are considered lost if they are not returned after 12 days. If you still have items that were marked as lost, you may either return them or contact circulation to extend your due date.

All items are charged replacement fee when they are declared lost.  Replacement fees are waived upon return.  Overdue fines are not waived but are only applied to reserve and technology items.

Book in Common Donation Drive

Support Meriam Library in providing access to additional copies of the popular 2020-21 Book in Common, How to Be an Antiracist, by Ibram X. Kendi.

Make a Donation

The Book in Common is a shared, community read, designed to promote discussion and understanding of important issues facing the broader community. It is chosen each year by a group of University faculty, staff, and community members.

CSU Statement on Textbooks in the Library

The 23 California State University Libraries share the statement below as articulating the constraints we face in providing service to the students that is our mission.  While the Affordable Learning Solutions initiative promotes the adoption of low or no cost materials, students may still find themselves unable to pay for essential reading.  When instruction is on campus, libraries can provide short-term access to textbook and other resources through course reserves.

Request a Title from the Meriam Library

The Meriam Library is excited to announce that books and media titles can now be requested through OneSearch. For Summer 2020 the requested items are available from the Main Collection, Folio, Author Wall, Juvenile Collection, Popular, media, and a limited number of reference titles. Requesting is only available for CSU Chico students, staff, and faculty.
