Join us for this open mic poetry reading to celebrate the work of Audre Lorde, who dedicated both her life and her creative talent to confronting and addressing injustices of racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia. "Poetry Is Not a Luxury" (1977) is an iconic essay in which Lorde argues poetry is a necessity for women, allowing them to tap into and verbalize feelings they experience as part of an ancient way of "knowing." Poetry provides a conduit for women to give name to nameless feelings, allowing for the transformation of feelings into ideas.
