Zines (pronounced zeens) are small, handmade, counter-culture folded booklets that offer the perfect space to share your message and express your thoughts. Born out of DIY and punk subcultures, zines exist outside of mainstream publishers and cover virtually any topic from art and personal diaries to politics and niche fandoms. Using a variety of paper sizes, you will learn how to fold and cut a zine to create a portable piece of personal expression. As an added bonus, we will be creating origami fortune tellers (also known as "cootie catchers") for all of our repressed mystics and soothsayers. Paper, ephemera, construction supplies, and snacks will be provided. Want to read more about the surging popularity of zines and a little of their history? Click here and scroll to the second story.
