Boro is a Japanese mending and patchwork technique used to extend the life of clothing by layering scraps of fabric over worn or torn areas and stitching them in place, often with sashiko (a type of running stitch). For those who use boro, each repair tells a story while extending and personalizing the life of individual pieces of clothing. Join us to learn the fundamentals of this simple art form and be sure to bring in a piece of clothing you would like to repair! We will provide material, needles, sashiko thread and snacks (yay!) along with some personal pieces to illustrate the art behind the fix. If curiosity has gotten the better of you, search for boro clothing and check out the prices of this highly valued form of textile repair!
