There are several examples in recent news of conservative local and state officials taking aim both at specific titles and broad categories of books that deal with race, gender, or sexuality. This is an opportunity to discuss censorship and civic engagement in an informed way, making space for space for our rights and responsibilities as civic participants.

Meriam Library will celebrate Banned Books week with a library exhibit and interactive event, which welcomes campus and community partners to discuss how books are challenged to be excluded from classrooms and public libraries.

  • Monday- Sunday Library Exhibit with Banned Book MadLIBS
  • Thursday September 22- 4-5 pm
    • Freedom to Read Open Mic: students can come to the first floor Research Commons and read a 3-minute excerpt from their favorite Banned Book. Light refreshmens will be served.
    • Pedal Press art collective Live-printing tote bags in the Meriam Library Breezeway with the message, "I READ BANNED BOOKS"
