Brown Bag talks are Back for Spring '17

The Meriam Library is ready to kickoff Brown Bag Talks this semester starting Tuesday, February 14, 2017 continuing through Tuesday April 25, 2017 at noon. The library faculty, as well as Research and Sponsored Programs, will be presenting on a variety of topics that you will find informative, supportive and interesting. The topics are:

Write Black History

Anybody can edit Wikipedia! Let’s gather to strengthen Wikipedia’s scope and content related to Black History. Join Meriam Library on February 23rd in MLIB 226 from 3-5pm, with the goal of collaborating to enhance and expand on Wikipedia articles that document black leaders, thinkers, and artists throughout history. In this interactive workshop, users will:

New Archivist in Special Collections

We are pleased to welcome Archivist, Stefani Baldivia to our Meriam Library Special Collections team. Stefani hails to us from Arcata where she held a similar position. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Humboldt State University in Native American Studies and a Master’s degree of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. She grew up in the college town of Redlands where her father worked at University of Redlands. She loves Chico’s tree lined streets and weather as it is reminiscent of her hometown. Please come by and say hello.

Scheduled Maintenance

On Friday, June 10th, the Campus Data Center will be shut down for major network maintenance.  Most campus systems and access to the internet will be affected by this work for two or more hours during the maintenance window.  This will include the Library ReSEARCH Station, databases and online catalog.

Local Historical Newspapers Now Online

The Meriam Library is pleased to offer access to historical local newspapers on Digital Reel. All available Butte County newspapers on microfilm have been scanned and digitized and are now online. The content includes a variety of titles beginning with the Butte Record (1851) and continuing with The Chico Enterprise and Chico Record through December 1922. Issues later than 1922 are still available on microfilm.

Research and Subject Guides Updated

The Meriam Library is in the process of updating and modernizing our Research and Subject guides - the popular subject, course, and topic guides created by librarians and staff at the Meriam Library. These guides help patrons locate articles, books, and other research as well as assist in evaluating information, assessing research credibility, and citing. The transfer from the old guides to the new guides will happen on Thursday, January 21st.

Scheduled Maintenance

Chancellor Office Data Center Relocation Beginning Friday evening, Jan 8th at 9pm, thru Sunday, Jan 10, the Chancellor's Office will be performing maintenance to relocate their production data center.
