New Archivist in Special Collections

We are pleased to welcome Archivist, Stefani Baldivia to our Meriam Library Special Collections team. Stefani hails to us from Arcata where she held a similar position. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Humboldt State University in Native American Studies and a Master’s degree of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. She grew up in the college town of Redlands where her father worked at University of Redlands. She loves Chico’s tree lined streets and weather as it is reminiscent of her hometown. Please come by and say hello.

Local Historical Newspapers Now Online

The Meriam Library is pleased to offer access to historical local newspapers on Digital Reel. All available Butte County newspapers on microfilm have been scanned and digitized and are now online. The content includes a variety of titles beginning with the Butte Record (1851) and continuing with The Chico Enterprise and Chico Record through December 1922. Issues later than 1922 are still available on microfilm.

Buried Treasure

Ever wondered what is buried in those time capsules in front of Kendall Hall?

Right now in In Special Collections, on the third floor, on exhibit are the contents of the 1962 time capsule recently unearthed during Chico Experience week as well the contents from the 1938 time capsule unearthed in 2008.
