The Meriam Library has been given trial access to Newsbank's America's Newspapers. This database contains local and regional newspapers from across the United States with current day coverage. It includes the Chico Enterprise Record, and the Orion. Users are able to search the newspapers, save articles, and create email alerts.

The Meriam Library has been given trial access to Gale's Testing and Education Reference Center. Like the Learning Express Library posted below, this databases contains online test preparation guides, and online practice tests. Though the range of tests offered is smaller, the Testing and Education Reference Center also includes career guides and career assessment testing. There are also several college and career search guides available in the database.

The Meriam Library has been given trial access the Learning Express Library. This is an online database of test preparation guides, and learning skills tutorials. A broad range of test preparation guides for education and career licensing is available, as well as tutorials for developing learning skills. The database features an online system which allows users to create an account, and take actual online test.

Meriam Library has been given trial access to Knovel, a database that contains online full-text of over 1600 engineering reference books, handbooks, and manuals. The books are published by over 40 publishers and professional societies -- many of them major publishers, such as Springer, Elsevier, Wiley, etc. Our trial allows us access to the full Knovel collection, which covers many subject areas, including mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, food science, chemistry, biotechnology, and earth sciences. We will have trial access to Knovel through October 30, 2008.

The Meriam Library currently has access to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. Online access to this resource is gratis for one year with purchase of the print version, which the Library currently has on order. This is an impressive reference work, with over 56,000 biographies written by 10,000 specialist contributors. There are also over 10,000 portrait illustrations. Biographies contained in the Dictionary cover persons who have helped shape British history.
