Database Preview: Greenr available through May 31, 2010.

The Meriam Library has been given trial access to Greenr. Greenr is a new database that covers issues related to the environment, sustainability, and developing green technologies. It is designed to facilitate browsing by topic or geographic location, and also includes a traditional search component that indexes academic journals, news sources, and case studies.

CredoReference on trial through January 4, 2010.

The Meriam Library has been given trial access to the CredoReference database, which hosts over 400 online reference books. Included are dictionaries and encyclopedias covering science, social science and the humanities. Many of the major publishers of reference books are represented in this online collection, including ABC-CLIO, Elsevier, Gale, Routledge, and more.

ProQuest Digital Microfilm on trial through December 10, 2009.

Microfilm newspapers are going digital. ProQuest has introduced Digital Microfilm, which offers users online access to scanned newspaper microfilm. Digital Microfilm is not a database -- the newspapers cannot be searched, but are viewed  in the same way that microfilm is viewed, only online. Also, coverage is not historical, meaning there is no archive.

Films on Demand on trial through Nov. 14, 2009.

The Meriam Library has been given trial access to Films on Demand. This is a web based digital video service, which streams educational films online.  There are over 5,500 titles in the database covering a broad range of subject areas, including humanities, social science, business, economics, science, and more.

Global Health on trial through June 30, 2009

In an effort to assist in the battle against swine flu, CABI is making their Global Health database freely available to the public over the coming weeks.  Global Health is known as the definitive international public health database. It contains abstracting and indexing of information related to public health and veterinary research, with coverage back to 1910.

LexisNexis Congressional Research Digital Collection on trial through May 15

The Meriam Library has been given trial access to the LexisNexis Congressional Research Digital Collection. This database contains Congressional Research Service reports and Congressional Committee Prints. These reports are intended to provide Congress with information related to policy making, covering a very wide variety of topics. The documents are prepared to be objective, unbiased, concise, and easy to read. Each document is in fully searchable PDF format, with subject indexing terms.

Lexis Nexis U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection on trial through April 19, 2009.

The Meriam Library has been given trial access to the U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection. This is an online collection of reports and documents either produced or ordered by Congress, as well as Presidential communications and information related to treaties. Coverage is from 1789 to 1969.  This important collection of historical documents in now available online, and can be searched using keyword or index terms.

World Trade Press databases on trial through May 15, 2009

World Trade Press is a publisher specializing in international trade, logistics, and country data. They are now marketing their publications to academic institutions, and have given the Meriam Library trial access to two of their databases. The first is AtoZMapsOnline. This database is a collection of over 4,000 maps.
